"The Ultimate Kung Fu Learning Experience"

Traditional Southern Style Chinese Martial Arts

With the decline of the Ming Dynasty, the Manchu's gained great power. For a long period of time the Manchu's cherished the ambition of invading the central Plains of China, but were prevented from doing so by valiant men of Chinese Martial arts. When the Manchu's finally conquered the middle kingdom, they were determined to eliminate Chinese kung fu, allkung fu training was outlawed with the intent of crushing the influence of China's great martial arts and martial artist. HUNG SING BOXING

HUNG SING BOXING like most southern kung fu systems had its birth in the Shaolin (Sil Lum) Temple. Our founder Jeung Hung Sing gained the bulk of his knowledge from the venerable monk Ching Cho (Green Grass) during uneasy times in China. For about 10 years, Jeung Hung-Sing trained with the Monk with no distractions such as family or fun and mastered all hands, weapons, medical knowledge and internal techniques. After his studies, he was allowed to leave and was given the name Jeung Hung-Sing (Hung-Sing became also his adult and coded revolutionary name).

Upon leaving, Jeung Hung-Sing returned to his original mentor Chan Heung (with whom he was with for a short period of time, but Chan Heung put him on his best path, and Hung-Sing showed Chan, Heung his new techniques and his mastery of them. He was then commended for his skill ,and was asked by Chan Heung immediately, to be his assistant. For a few years(1-2), he shared with Chan Heung some of the advancements he had gained and later left so as not to cause any further internal resentment or conflict (still not being a family/village member) branched out on his own and devised his own methods for his new style originally known as FUT GA JING JONG or HUNG-SING FIST and eventually known as Hung-Sing Kuen in the decades to come, to be renamed that by other gung-fu practitioners who could not completely identify his movements he often used in combat during the revolution, Jeung, Hung-Sing, was the founder of this style. His school's complete name, Hung-Sing Studio Teaching The Hung Sing Boxing, came from a combination of Our Founder's given name, Hung Sing, which translated into "Glorious Victory." The style, was aptly named after the Primary Contributor of his personal method after his mentor, the "Green Grass Monk" (from whom he he had gotten the bulk of his knowledge which completely changed his point of view of combat and eventually turned into what we have today). Prefacing the name is Sil Lum (Shaolin in Mandarin), giving honor to Buddha and all monks in the temple.

Jeung Hung Sing (aka Jeung Yim) was followed by the next-in-line master of his school (for the SAN FRANCISCO BRANCH) and this was Master Yuen Hai and his wife, Yuen Hai Si-Mo. They were the most enigmatic masters to come out of the Hung-Sing school. Master Yuen was a direct student of ''OUR FOUNDER , Jeung, Hung Sing'', when he first opened his school and contributed such weaponry as the butterfly knives and a wide variety of hand forms and techniques . Master Yuen was also a well-known fighter, traveller, and practitioner of a variety of styles in Southern China. Mrs. Yuen, a noted northern stylist, contributed a majority of internal training aspects to our style such as breathing internally, and other (similar to) Northern type hand/arm maneuvers. The enigmatic couple was then followed by their student and our Next Master and Founder of the San Francisco Hung-Sing Studio , Professor Lau Bun, who promoted the Hung Sing legacy being  in the U.S.A. in the 1930's. Sometime between 1931 and 1939, at that point in time he was about 38 years of age, he established the Wah Kuen Club of Hung Sing Fist where he taught private groups and Brother Tong members. This club later became the HUNG-SING SCHOOL of SAN FRANCISCO and AMERICA as the Professor wished to honor both The Founder and the Original Name of our studio "HUNG-SING" (we understand the name as to mean "GLORIOUS VICTORY" as the American translation) by this time, Professor Lau, Bun was already distinguished for his street fighting ability and his school's Lion Dancing Proficiency. He was a great innovator, well known for his adaptive and combative techniques, truly tried and tested in the field, he showed that even though he used original techniques that were taught by Jeung Hung Sing in our beginnings that they were fully usable even within today's modern society."

 Great Grandmaster Lau Bun

         1891-1967

Professor Jew, Leong was born, October 2,1926, as his papers say, first joined Professor Lau, Bun in 1941 at the age of 14 . Professor Jew Leong was already teaching a youth group in the Jew Family Association, known as the Gee Tuck Som Tuck and President of the Hop Sing Tong/Sing Keung Benevolent Association when Prof. Lau Bun passed away in 1967 at the age of 76, therefore leaving Professor Jew, Leong the most knowledgeable form wise and time wise to this day amongst all of his classmates having been with Professor Lau long before any of the new generation were even born . PROFESSOR JEW, Leong was known as an excellent tactician in the art of street fighting, he is the most proficient expert in the form Um Ying Bot Kwa Kuen (5 Animals Internal Form) under Prof. Lau Bun, Professor Jew Leong is also a Master of the Staff and its usages with the same skill applied to the Butterfly Knives and Whips. Upon the passing of Prof. Lau Bun; Prof. Jew, Leong, moved to Chinatown's Spofford Alley in 1967, then eventually back to the Jew Family Association. In 1987 Professor Jew Leong went in semi-retirement. In 1995, he fully retired and designated the present Grandmaster Dino Jew Salvatera, his most proficient senior student under him, to be the next descendant of the, Hung Sing Goon, teaching authentic Hung Sing Boxing that Prof. Jew Leong headed for the last past 3 decades.

Grand Master Jew Leong

Sifu Dennis "Dino Jew" Salvatera ( Pronounced in Filipino Salbatera) (known throughout the San Francisco's Chinatown Community as Jew, Tien Loong) was born in San Francisco's Chinese Hospital in California on October 20, 1945 and is of Filipino (Illacano) and Chinese (father) & Irish (mother) parentage.

Sifu Dino first became interested and started practicing Hung-Sing Choy-Lee-Fut in 1958. After initally practicing /learning in 1958 (when he was first introduced to Hung Sing's FIST, soon after that Master Salvatera's first Formal Sefu in a Formal Kung-Fu Club/Studio, commercial environment was with Sifu Bing Chan (Chan, Bing Hong) of the Lup Mo School at 763 Jackson Street in S.F.'s Chinatown, who also  was also a student of Professor Lau, Bun.

It was at this time that Sifu Dino started to develop his performance skills by 1966 and by doing public performances and such. Sifu Chan was a very knowledgeable, charismatic individual who loved all of his students and being a traditionalist to the Hung Sing Kuen Style both in movement and by being lightning fast as our style dictates us to be.

When Master Chan died suddenly of high blood pressure in early 1968, Master Salvatera continued practicing with his Senior Classmate Adeline Louie and other classmates for about 1 month until he made arrangements with Adeline Louie (Adeline had introduced Sifu Dino to Sigung Lau, Bun prior to Sigung's Lau's passing) to join Sifu Bing Chan's Senior classmate Professor Jew, Leung. Sifu Dino then went under the tutelage of Professor Jew, Leung. Professor Jew, the Senior Classmate of Master Bing Chan, Prof. Jew, Leung was at the same time, the next descendant of the Hung-Sing School of San Francisco and America who Master Salvatera joined with Professor Jew Leung in 1967 completely after the death of his then present teacher. While at the Lup-Mo school in early 1966,around this time his senior classmate Adeline introduced him to Professor Jew, Leong who was still teaching at the Family Association.

Sifu Dino would go up and play Mah-Jong and practice gung-fu with Sifu Jew, Leong and his students who had not opened the Spotford School yet, Professor Lau was still Alive at this time , this is where he met his future wife to be Wai-San (and other relatives who were learning from Jew, Leung) Wai-San is Professor Jew, Leung's close cousin and also was his student, She is also Master Salvatera's senior classmate.

At that time Professor Jew, Leung was in the process of moving his own studio( Jew, Leong's Martial Club, where he had started teaching independently from Professor Lau,Bun at the Jew Family Youth Group Association (located on Waverly St. in S.F. Chinatown) where he had initially taught for many years, eventually to the then new address of the Hung-Sing Studio at 38 Spotford Alley (also in S.F. Chinatown) where he took over the club after the death of Professor Lau, Bun. Sifu Dino was given permission to teach small groups in 1970, until the Official Grand Opening of his School the Tien Loong Gung-Fu Club (later called the Tien-Loong Hung-Sing Gung-Fu Club in 1983, the Master of Ceremonies at this Grand opening was Professor Jew, Leong showing his sign of approval .

Sifu Dino was later Appointed Chairperson of the Hung Sing Studio in 1987 by Professor Jew, Leung (who was in semi-retirement at this time). At thistime Sifu Dino completely changed thename from Tien Loong Studio toHung Sing Studio  placing the importance of the Founder ((Jeung, Hung-Sing) over his own name at this point, and CONTINUED CARRYING ON THE THE HUNG-SING NAME IN AMERICA AS WERE HIS MASTER'S WISHES ( present at that time was Ms. Adeline Louie the Senior classmate of Sifu Dino). Sifu Dino still continued practicing under his Sifu's guidance and learning until Professor Jew's full retirement in 1995 when he handed over the Hung Sing name completely to Sifu Dino whose only style has always been Hung Sing Kuen, a true traditionalist to Hung Sing Boxing.
